Deliveroo Singapore and Food from the Heart rally Singaporeans to order their favourite dishes to help the needy this National Day

Deliveroo Singapore and Food from the Heart rally Singaporeans to order their favourite dishes to help the needy this National Day

28 July 2022

In celebration of Singapore's 57th birthday this National Day (9 August), Deliveroo Singapore has partnered with its long-term CSR partner, Food from the Heart (FFTH), to rally its customers to help the less fortunate by simply ordering their favourite dishes on the delivery platform. The partnership will see Deliveroo supporting the charity organisation's Project Belanja! programme, a technology-driven hot food redemption initiative run in collaboration with local hawker stall owners, to provide underprivileged families in Singapore with freshly-cooked meals.

As part of the latest partnership, Deliveroo will donate $57 to FFTH when customers place an order from participating restaurants on National Day, with donations totalling up to $10,000. The initiative is part of Deliveroo's global community-focused campaign, Full Life, which aims to utilise its unique network of riders, restaurants and grocers to support communities in cities where Deliveroo operates.

The participating restaurants include five hawker stalls under FFTH's Project Belanja! programme, including Jack's Kitchen, Xin Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice and Xin Xing Hainan Chicken Rice. In addition, some of Singapore's well-loved restaurants on the Deliveroo platform, such as Swensen's and Springleaf Prata Place, will release a 57% promotion on selected dishes valid for the entire month of August. Deliveroo will also donate $57 for every order of the selected promotional dishes on National Day. The donations will go towards FFTH's Project Belanja! fund, which will provide over 2,500 meals to over 300 beneficiaries in Singapore.

"As a socially responsible company, we always look for opportunities in which we can rally our customers to make a difference in the community, alongside us. Our past collaborations with FFTH in helping hawkers tide through the pandemic and supporting disadvantaged students have proven to be successful. This year, we want to spread the National Day spirit and allow our customers to give back by simply ordering their favourite dishes on our platform, and we will donate to FFTH's Project Belanja! programme on their behalf. We are honoured to be working with FFTH again on this very meaningful initiative and hope to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged families," said Jason Parke, General Manager, Deliveroo Singapore.

"We are glad to be joining hands with Deliveroo again, especially on a special occasion like National Day where Singaporeans can come together to help vulnerable local communities tackle the issue of hunger. Deliveroo's generous donation to our Project Belanja! programme will help feed over 300 local beneficiaries. We look forward to future meaningful partnerships with Deliveroo. " Robin C. Lee, CEO of Food from the Heart.

"Project Belanja! helps me cover some of my food expenses. I can save this little amount of money for emergency use," Mdm Serene Tan, 69 years old, a beneficiary of FFTH. With spinal issues, Mdm Tan is unable to stand for long hours, limiting her opportunity to work and to prepare her own meals. As a beneficiary of Project Belanja!, not only does Mdm Tan not have to worry about her next meal, she also feels more assured with some savings.

Deliveroo's partnership with FFTH is a long-standing one. Past collaborations focused on overcoming food insecurity among children and families, with focused initiatives around contributions to philanthropic causes and community service. Earlier this year, Deliveroo and FFTH launched a partnership to enable Deliveroo customers to feed the less fortunate with local fresh farm produce in a sustainable manner for beneficiaries and local farmers.

Last December, Deliveroo Singapore also pledged over 100 hours to deliver essential food packs to more than 100 underprivileged families under FFTH. Other campaigns held in partnership with FFTH include FFTH's Clean Plate Campaign, where customers joined the fight towards zero food waste and shared it on social media.

Previous community-focused campaigns by Deliveroo Singapore include initiatives conducted during Ramadan. In April this year, the company partnered with charity organisations, Ren Ci Hospital, Singapore Children's Society and the Muslimin Trust Fund Association (MTFA) to deliver 4,500 free iftar porridge for the charities' beneficiaries and healthcare workers as part of its Delivering Smiles campaign during Ramadan. Last year, Deliveroo also had its Heroes to Heroes initiative, in partnership with the Migrant Workers Centre, where Deliveroo riders delivered up to 1,600 iftar meals to five dorms for foreign workers to enjoy during Ramadan. Other community-focused campaigns by Deliveroo Singapore also include their partnership with TOUCH Community Services, where Deliveroo gathered customers, restaurants and riders to get behind the Meals-On-Wheels initiative.
